SKANSKA

Skanska, one of the world's leading construction groups with expertise in construction, development of commercial and residential projects and public-private partnerships, has been appointed as the official Construction Management Team exclusively for Destination Hotel Partners, LLC.

Since its founding in 1887, Skanska has established a global network of operations. Sweden, the US, UK, Denmark, Finland, Norway, Poland, the Czech Republic and Argentina are Skanska's home markets. The Skanska Group has approximately 56,000 employees (2006). Revenue in 2006 was 126 billion.

Skanska’s mission is to develop, build and service the physical environment for living, working and traveling. Making clients successful by providing world-class construction services is the hallmark of Skanska USA Building Inc. With approximately 4,100 employees in the United States, our construction industry leadership, strong client focus and action-oriented attitude make us the contractor-of-choice for any size project or capital building program throughout the U.S.

Skanska’s task is to ensure that their customer’s investments yield the highest possible returns, for example by ensuring that their building functions perfectly, that it can be expanded effectively, and that it is completed ahead of schedule so that occupation or production can begin more quickly. Skanska's commitment and global expertise are crucial factors in fulfilling - and often exceeding - the client's expectations. In many markets, repeat orders represent more than three quarters of our sales. We believe that this is the best testimony of all - the fact that our clients work with us time and again.

It is Skanska's key responsibility to develop and maintain an economically sound and prosperous business. Skanska as a business with a long history and future assumes its responsibilities. These include our responsibilities toward the countries, communities and environments in which we operate, toward our employees and business partners and toward society in general.

Awards: Out of thousands of projects, 21 were nominated in 2006. Three were chosen as winners to join Skanska’s hall of fame. In Environment, Health and Safety Awards category, out of 20 projects nominated in 2006, two were winners: “Providence Newberg Medical Center” in Environment, and “Primary Sulfide Project” in Health and Safety.

HBCU is an acronym that stands for Historically Black Colleges and Universities. HBCUs were founded in the late 1800's to address the educational needs of Freed Slaves and Native Americans. Today HBCUs are the top producers of professional African American talent and remain extremely important to the needs of the black community.

Destination Hotel Partners LLC has formed a strategic alliance with Soundview Partners LLC, a minority-owned real estate advisory firm, to develop hotel facilities on campuses of Historically Black Colleges and Universities. We also plan to work with these institutions to help revitalize aging campus buildings and create quality student and faculty housing.

The hotel development can provide a potential source of revenue and profit center for the Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). The college and university will share up to 50% of the net profits generated from hotel operations. The hotel project will create jobs opportunities for students as well as local residents. The development plan may also include teaching facilities for a hospitality and restaurant management program.

The college and university will become a destination with its own upscale “branded” hotel facility that caters to a number of guests including parents, students, faculty, alumni, visiting sport teams, and friends of the university. The hotel will also satisfy the community’s need for meeting space and social venue for fundraising activities and weddings. The conference center at the hotel will serve vendors, academic conference attendees, and corporate clients in the area.

NAFEO

thinking

The National Association for Equal Opportunity in Higher Education (NAFEO) is the umbrella organization of the nation’s historically and predominantly black colleges and universities. NAFEO was founded in 1969 by a group of HBCU presidents as the professional association of the presidents and chancellors of the nation's historically and predominantly black colleges and universities.

NAFEO represents approximately 500,000 students and their families. NAFEO member institutions are public and private, 2- and 4-year, community, regional, national and international comprehensive research institutions, located in twenty-five states, the District of Columbia, the Virgin Islands and Brazil.

Mission: to champion the interests of historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) and predominantly black institutions (PBIs) with the executive, legislative, regulatory and judicial branches of federal and state government and with corporations, foundations, associations and non-governmental organizations; to provide services to NAFEO members; to build the capacity of HBCUs, their executives, administrators, faculty, staff and students; and to serve as an international voice and advocate for the preservation and enhancement of historically and predominantly black colleges and universities and for blacks in higher education.

A Word from its President:

“An investment in historically and predominantly black colleges and universities is among the wisest investments we can make as a nation and as individuals.

Historically and predominantly black colleges and universities are doing a better job than majority colleges and universities when it comes to educating, retaining, and sending African-American students to graduate and professional schools and into skilled positions in the labor force.

They are at the creative forefront of American education, offering the tools and skills necessary to prepare students for today’s diverse, globally interdependent world.”

- Lezli Baskerville, President and CEO.
